Mindful Stretching
Like our furry friends after they wake up from a nap, we can also benefit from simple stretching exercises to release tension, dispel excess energy, and ground us. In addition to having some weighted blankets, stress toys, and fidget toys available for our clients, if physical space and comfort permit, offer the option to engage in some simple light stretching to help take a quick mental break, boost focus, and assist with emotional regulation.
Always obtain parental/guardian consent for younger clients and avoid stretching if it causes pain at any point.

We can learn a lot from educators and children’s hospitals that have researched the powerful positive effects of stretching for children in schools. Movement is incredibly valuable to break up an otherwise very stressful and potentially traumatizing meeting with clients.
