Building Professional Community

Connect. Care. Repeat.

No agendas.

Working environments thrive when there is connection. Set an intentional goal to meet socially with one work colleague from your firm, your partner legal services organizations, or other personal and professional networks at least once a week.

You may have to follow up more than once! Be polite, but respectfully persistent and enticing. Sometimes, we all need a little extra nudge to carve out time from our busy workdays.

Seek out mutually rewarding activities that help you connect over nature. Bring your reusable mugs, ditch the sit down cafés, and take your warm beverages with you on a walk to a nearby park, dog run, garden, or body of water. Take a moment to appreciate the outdoors.

Do not be afraid to bring your authentic self to the meeting and set an example to invite your colleague to bring their authentic self to the meeting.

Bonding over shared trauma or workplace stressors is valid if that comes up organically, but try also to connect on a more personal level thinking outside the immediate working relationship. This is not the forum to pitch for work, ask for favors, give constructive feedback, or work on a project.
